Our Approach to Holistic Counseling
Holistic counseling at Rise integrates mind, body, and spirit to promote deep, lasting healing and not just symptom relief.
Our trauma-informed therapists use a person-centered and strengths-based approach to support you in understanding and overcoming life’s challenges — emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
Our approach also reflects the belief that every person is created with purpose and designed for wholeness — and that restoration involves nurturing the mind, body, and spirit together.
We use approaches like:

EMDR and trauma-focused therapy

Somatic and mindfulness-based techniques

Strengths-based and solution-focused therapy

Inner child work and spiritual integration
Each session is tailored to your story — creating a safe, supportive space where healing feels possible. Curious about what to expect in your first session? Read our FAQs.

Dana Martinez
MS, LPC, CIMHP
Clinical Director / Founder
My passion is to help people in all stages of life grow and heal with an emphasis on mind, body, and soul, and from a holistic, integrative approach. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified integrative mental health professional, and it is an absolute gift from the Lord to help people and be a part of their journey. Since high school, my dream has been to be a counselor. I attended undergraduate school at Texas Christian University and Grand Canyon University for graduate school.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 27 years, and we have four amazing children. I am a Christian and believe my relationship with Jesus is the foundation that leads and guides me in all of these roles.
I utilize a Christian worldview and am willing to incorporate any level you are comfortable with in therapy. Reaching out and starting therapy can be difficult and scary, and my hope and prayer is for you to feel at peace from the moment we meet. I specialize in helping clients heal from trauma and anxiety and learn how to help the brain work for you and not against you.
I also work with various mental health issues and diagnoses, and believe our work together will create positive change.
I am also proud to be certified in Integrative Mental Health, which allows me to further help clients find and utilize holistic tools and integrate them into therapy.

Abby is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Sciences from Texas A&M University.
Her interest in counseling began through years of working at summer camp and later mentoring college students, where she discovered the value of creating spaces where people feel truly seen, known, and supported.
Growing up as a missionary kid in South America gave Abby a deep appreciation for the challenges of life transitions and the resilience people develop through difficult seasons. She is committed to walking alongside individuals as they navigate trauma, grief, addiction, and other life transitions with compassion, authenticity, and hope.
Abby and her husband have been married for nearly eight years and are raising their three children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and staying active.

Gabby Barnholdt
Graduate Student Intern
Supervised by Dana Martinez, LPC
Gabby is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary, having graduated from Texas A&M University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Her passion for counseling began during her summers at Pine Cove Christian Camps and continued to develop through her work with students in the Watermark Institute in Dallas, TX. Along this journey, she gained a deep understanding of the emotional burdens people carry and cultivated a steadfast desire to be a compassionate, steady presence who walks alongside others through life’s inevitable challenges. Grounded in her faith, Gabby is passionate about creating a warm, safe, and supportive space where individuals feel seen, valued, and empowered in their journey toward healing. She prioritizes building authentic connections and thoughtfully adapting her approach to meet the unique needs of each person she serves. Gabby and her husband, Alex, have been married for four years and enjoy spending quality time together—whether they’re watching movies at Cinemark, exploring new places to eat, or hosting friends in their home.
